Repository Policies

Content Policy

  1. eBangor Research Data is an Open Access institutional repository of research data.
  2. The repository will accept research datasets produced at Bangor University and supports the University’s Research Data Management Policy.
  3. For research publications please go to http://e.bangor.ac.uk

Submission Policy

  1. Items may only be deposited by accredited members of Bangor University, or their delegates.
  2. Authors may only submit their own work for archiving.
  3. The Repository Team only vets items for the eligibility of authors/depositors, relevance to the scope of the repository, valid layout and format, and the exclusion of spam.
  4. Any copyright violations are the responsibility of the data creators
  5. Items can be deposited at any time, but will not be made publicly visible until any publishers' or funders' embargo period has expired.

Takedown Policy

  1. The Bangor University Repository team will review any take-down requests.
  2. Any copyright violations are the responsibility of the data creators.
  3. If there is proof of copyright violation, the item in question will be removed from public view immediately. The Repository team will inform the data creators of the removed item.

Metadata Policy

  1. Anyone may access the metadata free of charge.
  2. The metadata may be re-used in any medium without prior permission for not-for-profit purposes and re-sold commercially provided the OAI Identifier or a link to the original metadata record are given.
  3. You may use hyperlinks to link to the repository, its pages and the content held within it without prior written consent providing the relevant page is displayed in the same form without any amendment or framing.

Data Policy

  1. Access to some items is controlled; items are individually tagged with different rights permissions and conditions.
  2. Items marked “open access” can be:
    • reproduced, displayed or performed, given to third parties, and stored in a database in any format or medium
    • for personal research or study, educational, not-for-profit, or commercial purposes without prior permission or charge.
    Provided:
    • the authors, title and full bibliographic details are given
    • a hyperlink and/or URL are given for the original metadata page
    • the original copyright statement is given
    • the original rights permission statement is given
  3. Items marked “restricted access” are subject to restrictions determined by the data creator and these are detailed on the landing page of each dataset
  4. Full items must not be sold commercially in any format or medium without formal permission of the data creators.

Preservation Policy

  1. Data creators will work with the Repository team to assess the long term value of deposited items and determine their retention period. Bangor University has a commitment to retain the data for the period agreed with the data creator.
  2. The repository will try to ensure continued readability and accessibility:
    • Items will be migrated to new file formats where necessary
    • It may not be possible to guarantee the readability of some unusual file formats
  3. The repository regularly backs up its files according to current best practice.
  4. The original bit stream is retained for all items, in addition to any upgraded formats.
  5. Items may be removed at the request of the data creator. Acceptable reasons for withdrawal include:
    • Proven copyright violation or plagiarism
    • Legal requirements and proven violations
    • National Security
    • Falsified research
  6. If necessary, an updated version may be deposited:
    • The earlier version may be withdrawn from public view
    • There will be links between earlier and later versions, with the most recent version clearly identified
